Chores by age

Family chore chart by age

The mistake is not assigning too much. It is assigning things a child cannot yet finish alone, so an adult ends up finishing them and everybody learns the chore was optional.

Ages 4โ€“6

  • Put toys in one named box
  • Carry their plate to the sink
  • Feed a pet with an adult nearby
  • Put dirty clothes in the basket

Ages 7โ€“9

  • Make their own bed
  • Set or clear the table
  • Sort laundry into colours
  • Pack their own school bagAgainst a list, not from memory.

Ages 10โ€“12

  • Load and unload the dishwasher
  • Take bins out on the right night
  • Hoover one room properly
  • Make a simple breakfast or lunch

Ages 13+

  • Run a full load of laundry start to finish
  • Cook one family dinner a week
  • Do a small shop from a list
  • Be responsible for one recurring household job, unprompted

What this list does inside Famio

In Famio each of these becomes a chore with a rotation and a reward. A child checks it off on their own paired device, an adult verifies it, and the balance is theirs โ€” which is the part that makes the chart outlast February.
